Privacy Information for Legal Clients
commUnity+ Legal places great importance on the privacy and confidentiality of clients, members, stakeholders, research participants and employees.
Accordingly, commUnity+ Legal has a Client Privacy Policy and associated procedures in place to ensure that we meet our obligations and responsibilities in relation to the retention, handling and usage of the confidential and sensitive information of commUnity+ Legal clients.
Our Client Privacy Policy and its associated procedures apply to employees, volunteers, consultants and contractors for commUnity+ Legal, and ensure that we observe the privacy rights of all commUnity+ Legal clients via ensuring that:
- only information relevant to a client’s problem and/or the activities of commUnity+ Legal is collected;
- client files, documents and all related records are kept secure;
- clients’ personal and confidential information remains confidential;
- all commUnity+ Legal personnel have been fully briefed on privacy and confidentiality requirements;
- where an interpreter is being used, that interpreter will be briefed on confidentiality requirements;
- clients have the right to give or refuse permission to be contacted at home or work or by mail, phone or text message;
- clients have the right to consent to the release of information (with some exceptions – see privacy principle 2);
- clients have the right to access their file (with some exceptions – see, for example, health records legislation); and
- clients have the right to make a formal complaint about the service and to expect that this complaint will be fully investigated and resolved.
