Prepare for your appointment
Haven’t booked an appointment with commUnity+ Legal but need free legal help? Contact us to find out if we can assist.
To help you get the most out of your time with our lawyer, here is what you can do to prepare for appointment.
Bring documents with you
If you have any documents that you need the lawyer to read before your appointment, please email them to legal@comm-unityplus.org.au. If you have an in-person appointment, you can bring the documents with you.
When seeking our advice on family law matters, please fill out the Financial Summary questionnaire below before your appointment. It should only take you a few minutes.
On the day of your appointment
For phone appointments: The lawyer may call you from a private number or an unknown number. To make sure you don’t miss the call, check that any phone settings that might block private or unknown numbers are turned off.
For in-person appointments: Please check your reminder text for the address of your appointment. Appointments can be at our St Albans or one of our outreach locations.
We encourage parents to attend appointments without your children to reduce their exposure to distressing discussions, particularly if you will be discussing family violence matters with the lawyer.
Of course, we understand that finding alternative childcare arrangement isn’t always possible and we will always allow children to attend the appointment.
Interpreters
If you need an interpreter, you can let us know when you book the appointment or let the lawyer know at the start of your appointment.
Changing your appointment
If you can no longer attend the date or time you originally booked, then please call 03 8592 9077 or visit our Centre as soon as possible to reschedule.
Confidentiality
Any information you share with the lawyer during an appointment is kept confidential. It won’t be disclosed to any third party without your consent – this incudes support workers or casework managers – unless the law says otherwise.
