The newly opened Wyndham Law Courts have signalled better access to justice for Melbourne’s West. But what does that actually look like on a day-to-day basis?
Last week, commUnity+ Legal was fortunate to meet with Magistrate Pauline Spencer –who currently sits at the Wyndham Law Courts – and Service Development and Stakeholder Engagement Manager Di Missen.
It was an excellent opportunity to learn and exchange practical ideas. Each community in Melbourne has its own unique needs, and so too each court experiences its own unique patterns reflecting the area in which they operate.
commUnity+ Legal has decades of experience working in Melbourne’s West. And since the Courts opened in late 2025, our duty lawyers have been on-the-ground to provide free legal support to those who need it most.
This experience paired with our legal centre’s focus on family violence meant that the conversation with Magistrate Spencer revolved around ways to better support victim-survivors.
It is still early days for the Wyndham Law Courts. We look forward to future collaborative conversations, particularly with the introduction of the Specialist Family Violence Court in 2027.
