On Friday 16 May 2025, commUnity+ held a celebration to launch its new strategy, unveil a new name and formally open a new office. Brimbank Elder Uncle Shane Charles began proceedings by playing the didgeridoo and then delivered an inspiring Welcome to Country for the assembled guests.
commUnity+ was proud to welcome the Hon Natalie Suleyman MP, the Member for St Albans and Minister for Youth, Veterans and Small Business, to formally open our new commUnity+ Legal site at 30 East Esplanade. Minister Suleyman spoke of the need to support multicultural communities, her long connection with St Albans and how important support services, such as those delivered by commUnity+, are to the Western suburbs.
The grand opening of the new commUnity+ Legal office, formerly known as Brimbank Melton Community Legal Centre, also hosted the Hon Steve McGhie MP, Member for Melton. Mr McGhie commended commUnity+ for working with the people of Melton and hoped that commUnity+ would expand its presence in Melton.
The event also served to launch the commUnity+ 2025–28 Strategy, which will serve to guide the organisation over the next three years, with signposts for the decade ahead. While the Strategy was in development, commUnity+ invited two photographers, Bianca Tuckwell and Issac Wallace, to capture the essence of our work, some of the resulting images formed the exhibition ‘Portraits of the West’, which was showcased at the event.
The commUnity+ Legal opening and Strategy Launch was well attended by partners and stakeholders and we extend our gratitude for all those who joined us as well as to our speakers and Pawa Catering, who helped us make it a memorable occasion.
