About the position
commUnity+ is currently seeking applications for the role of EAL Teacher / Assessor for the Adult Migrant English Program (AMEP) – Settlement Language Pathways to Employment and Training Program (SLPET) in our Community Education division. This position is primarily based in St Albans, however occasionally you may be required to travel to other Education sites.
This position is available for an immediate start on a part time, sessional basis averaging 30.4 hours per week.
The EAL Teacher is responsible for preparing and delivering classes focused on English as an Additional Language qualifications and carrying out primary duties as course and session planning, preparation of teaching and learning resources for job readiness , and conducting assessments in accordance with the qualification delivered and VRQA & ASQA requirements.
Reporting to the Interim Settlement Programs Manager, the EAL Teacher will deliver a range of teaching services, and ensure that students from diverse backgrounds are provided with the relevant support to enhance their learning experience and achievements, while maintaining compliance requirements and completion of administrative tasks.

Key Selection Criteria

  • Bachelor’s degree with Language Other Than English (LOTE), and relevant VET qualification with TESOL as a method or specialisation in TESOL
  • Latest Certificate IV in Training and Assessment or previous versions with relevant upgrades
    Minimum of two years’ teaching experience, with demonstrated ability to implement best practice in the delivery of nationally recognised training and assessment is highly recommended.
    Demonstrated experience and knowledge with the state-based English as an Additional Language (EAL) Framework, guidelines and standards including the Victorian Registration and Qualifications Authority (VRQA) Guidelines for VET Providers and Australian Quality Training Framework
  • Highly developed and proficient teaching and assessing skills, including experience conducting and reporting Pre training assessment, new client assessment, moderation, and validation
  • Demonstrated experience in delivering learning to students from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, including clients with learning barriers
  • High level of verbal and written communication skills in English and proficiency in digital literacy and technology
  • Strong organisational and planning skills with high level of attention to detail, including self and time management skills
  • Experience teaching in the community education sector is desirable.

As the position would require travel to attend other commUnity+ sites from time to time, possessing a current Victorian Driver’s license would be advantageous.

About the position
The Community Development Worker will assist to develop and deliver community development projects and activities both within the commUnity+ Neighbourhood House program, as well as across other commUnity+ programs.
Implementing a Community Development approach, the Community Development Worker shares responsibility for Neighbourhood House administration, community engagement, program development and delivery of CU+ community development activities.
Reporting to the Community Development and Neighbourhood House Manager, the Community Development Worker promotes the growth and development of our Neighbourhood House and other community development programs in line with organisational strategic planning, community assets and arising challenges. The Community Development Worker engages with and for community to seek and provide opportunities that are responsive to community needs, interests and promote the values of commUnity+.
This position will be primarily based in Deer Park, and is available as a fulltime position.

Key Selection Critieria 

  • Tertiary qualification in Community Development or in a relevant
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, for a variety of audiences and purposes and ability to work with diverse communities.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of community development principles and experience in implementing community development practices.
  • Strong administration skills, data entry and database management, and competency using office technology (including proficient use of Microsoft Office suite).
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative, set priorities, monitor workflow, follow direction and manage deadlines whilst working autonomously.

Previous experiences in a Neighbourhood House setting and knowledge and understanding of the Brimbank LGA and surrounding communities is desirable.
Proficiency in languages additional to English is an advantage.

Reporting to the General Manager - Family and Community Services, the Community Development and Neighbourhood House Manager is a key leadership role that supports our vision to promote health and wellbeing, social inclusion, economic participation, community development and engagement, through integrated service design and delivery. 

The Community Development and Neighbourhood House Manager works with, and for community members, to seek and provide opportunities that are responsive to community needs, interests and promote the values of commUnity+, whilst being responsible for managing the engagement and relationship building between commUnity+ and the communities that it works with, ensuring increased community engagement, managing community development initiatives, and implementing the Neighbourhood House operational plan and the program’s overall management. 

This role is responsible for the creation of a positive community environment and experience and requires proven leadership skills, strong community sector management abilities and a passion for community development. 

This position will be primarily based in Deer Park, and is available as an ongoing fulltime position with flexibility to negotiate for a part time position of 0.8 FTE, working in a hybrid environment.

Key Selection Criteria 

  • A Tertiary qualification in Community Development, Social Work or other relevant fields. 
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal for a variety or audiences and purposes and strong leadership skills with the ability to effectively manage staff and volunteers.
  • High level of community development and engagement skills, including knowledge of the Neighbourhood House practice framework and philosophy. 
  • Demonstrated experience in program design, implementation and evaluation, program budgeting, facilitation and promotions and proven ability to innovate and influence change.
  • Experience in designing and implementing effective community engagement strategies.
  • Demonstrated ability to set priorities, monitor workflow, follow and give direction, maintain deadlines, exercise initiative and judgement in changing environments.
  • Ability to work autonomously, while maintaining strong communication with Management.
  • Demonstrated leadership and management of community development organisations and programs and demonstrated knowledge and experience in community development practices

Experience in grant-writing, fundraising and sponsorship, proficiency in languages in addition to English, and qualifications and experience in project/program management will be advantageous. 

This role will require some occasional work outside of ordinary hours and may involve occasional weekend work for involvement in community festivals and programs.
